The race director for 2025 is Wendy Peroza. Wendy first became involved in the Tupper Lake Tinman in 2002, volunteering in the swim leg as a kayaker. Over the years she has been involved in other aspects of the race volunteering at aid stations, swim wave leader, and transition set up. In 2015 Wendy made the jump to assistant race director, learning under the leadership of race director and father-in-law Maynard Peroza.
Wendy came to Tupper Lake in 2000 from North Tonawanda in Western New York. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY Cortland in Physical Education and a Master’s of Education in Health and Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler. The majority of her athletic background is in soccer. She played at numerous levels, leading her to playing at the state level of the New York West Olympic Development Program. She was also a member of the nationally ranked SUNY Cortland women’s soccer team and played for the Buffalo FFillies in the USISL “W” league. Following her playing days she went on to coach at the high school level in both North Tonawanda and Tupper Lake culminating with a season as the assistant women’s soccer coach at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake. Wendy enjoys participating in many different running races from the the Erin Dewyea Turkey Trot in Tupper Lake, to the Empire State 10K in Syracuse, and more recently the Boilermaker 15K in Utica.
Wendy looks forward to working with everyone involved in the Tupper Lake Tinman to provide the athletes a memorable race experience. She is very proud to be a part of the 43 year tradition of excellence.
The Tupper Lake Tinman Triathlon is one of the most popular and scenic races in northern New York and is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the U.S. Established in 1983, the Tinman offers five types of races: Tinman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run); Aquabike (1.2 mile swin, 56 mile bike); Team Relay (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run); Olympic (.93 mile swim, 26 mile bike, 6.2 mile run); and a Sprint (0.5-mile swim, 12.6-mile bike, 3.1-mile run).
